Reviewing Concepts:
(Corrections highlighted in green)
1. Properties that can be observed and measured without changing the chemical makeup of the substance.
2. Boiling point, freezing point, and melting point.
3. The density of liquid water 1.00 g/ml while the density of water is .91.
4. All solids, liquids and gases are classified as matter.
5. Heterogeneous Mixture: composition is not the same, or uniform, throughout.
Homogeneous Mixture: a mixture that is uniform throughout.
6. You need to know it's density (of both water and the gas).
7. A. Suspension
B. Suspension
C. Colloid
D. Solution
E. Suspension
F. Colloid
8. Solution because solutions can pass light. This demonstrates that the air in the room is a colloid because the beam of light is indicating that small, solid particles were still in the water. This is called the Tyndall effect.
9. See drawing.
10. Colloid because colloids are microscopic (the clear liquid). It's also a colloid because colloids are an exhibit Tyndall effect which means the scattering of light.
11. Substance: Homogeneous, definite composition and not physically separable. Examples are compounds and elements.
12. A. CO: Compound
B. Co: Element
C. HCl: Compound
D. Mg: Element
E. NaHCO3: Compound
F. NO: Compound
G. I2 Element
