- 2-3 hours.

2. Does class participation count?
- Yes but it is measured on how hard the student works on homework, in class, and contributing to the learning environment (as well as in lab groups).

3. Who has to sign the syllabus and the safety contract?
- The student and the student's parents.

4. Do you do your homework on your blog?
-Yes!

5. What about drawings?
- Include diagrams and drawings in lab reports (and also on blog!)

6. What if you don't have internet?
- You are required to have an internet connection at home so get an internet connection!

7. Does Riverwood worry about water supply or pollution? (p. 6).
- Both.

8. How many days keep diary?
- I will keep a family water diary for 3 days.

9. How will your diary table look?

10. How is water needed to make orange juice or an egg?
- It takes about 450 L of water to make one fried egg and 120 L of water to produce one 1.3-L can of fruit juice.

11. What is the purpose of the Foul Water Lab?
- To clean up a sample of foul water to produce as much "clean water" as possible, to a point where it could be used to wash your hands. (Or simply state: purify water).

12. What steps will you perform in the lab to purify the foul water?
-Oil-water separation, sand filtration, and charcoal adsorption and filtration.

13. What is a Histogram and what does it show?
- A histogram is a diagram (or graph) that is used to show the percent recovery obtained by all laboratory groups.

14. What is the greatest percentage of water is used nationally?
- Steam/electric (48%)

15. What percentage of water is fresh? Salt?
- Fresh: 2.8%
- Salt: 97.2%

16. What water could you do without? What could you not do without?
- Washing a dog: do without
- Drinking water: can't do without.

17. Give examples of direct and indirect water use.
Direct Use: Washing your hands, taking a shower, etc.
Indirect Use: Gardening, cleaning the dishes.

18. Give three techniques to purifying water.
- Oil-water separation, sand filtration, charcoal adsorption and filtration.

Terms to Know:

Meniscus: The curved surface of a liquid in a narrow cylindrical container.

Filtration: Water-purfication procedure where solid particles are separated from a liquid by passing the mixture through a material that retains the solid particles and allows the liquid to pass through.
